Update on the Jellinek Curve

by Screedler on March 18, 2012

Originally I had planned to update our Sober Toolbox with this post, but I got side tracked by the fact that one of our older posts was missing a very important graphic.  The post in question, “Bunky Knew The Booze” referenced “The Jellinek Curve”, a graphic representation of the downward trajectory that befalls addictions of all types.  After a little iResearch I found the chart in question, but I also found several updated ones that include an upward swoop depicting the rising arc of recovery.  Here’s the old depressing downhill racer chart of disaster, followed by the more optimistic “Addiction and Recovery” curve.

Thank you for posting these updates to the Jellinik Chart! I find them to be very useful to assist in teaching alcohol/drug education.
