A Bright Spot in a Sea of Abuse

”The

Congress passed the Addiction and Mental Health Parity Legislation assuring that at least one good thing will come out of the massive bank bailout plan that has been making international headlines this week. While I am pleased to see this progress made, it bothers me that an issue that affects nearly half of all Americans in some manner had to be snuck in as an earmark bundled in with more “critical” legislation. Congress has turned into a sea of abuse where power and partisanship is the drug of choice; I always try to keep TDA apolitical but I am depressed that this legislation had been held up until now and passed for all the wrong reasons.

I Support a Massive Intervention

picture by jvh33Let’s face it guys, our economy is in jeopardy. The ongoing public and institutional acceptance of abuse is costing the US almost $300 billion annually- that’s a $1000.00 out of the pocket of every single man, woman and child alive. Decisive action is necessary; inaction shall surely bring dire consequences upon our country. We need to act now with a massive intervention to stem the tide of rising… substance abuse.

Oh you probably won’t hear about it in the news[snark], but did I mention there is some kind of credit crisis also going on this week? Could you imagine what kind of results we would get if our government and citizens responded similarly to America’s number one health problem, alcohol and drug abuse?
