Within thirty seconds of Eva Mendez being displayed in her undies on my monitor my wife’s sixth sense had kicked in drawing her into my office.
“What are you doing?”
Hah! Smug, confident in my legitimate purpose, I explained that Eva Mendez was in recovery so a legitimate topic for my site.
“But in her underwear?”
Well that one took a little more explaining.

Actually both my wife and I have been a fan of Ms Mendez since her appearance with Will Smith in Hitch so it wasn’t too hard to get her convinced about my “real” intentions.
Eva Mendez has become the new spokesbody for Calvin Klein underwear and while I definitely prefer her to the usual starved alley cat models that need their ID’s checked, there is little to like about this first ad. This disturbing picture looks more like a haunting specter than the wholesome beauty that is Eva Mendez, as if Calvin Klein killed her off and did a photo shoot in the morgue. My wife disagreed saying it was artsy and that the ad has a sultry aura, but I just don’t get it.
This is Eva as I like her; smiling, happy, naturally beautiful (yes, the wife has left the room), alluring on many different levels. Listening to her speak about the serious nature of substance abuse in a mature and progressive manner just ups my opinion of her.
I’m proud of people who have the determination
and the fearlessness to actually go and face
their demons and get better. This is a life or
death situation. Again, I’m not a spokesperson
for this, but it’s just that I want to support people for
their decisions when they dogo in and
get help. ~ LA Times
In the interview from the link above, she could have avoided the uncomfortable subject of her recent rehab with a simple giggle or evasive lie. Instead she took the high road and told the guy this wasn’t a laughing matter and that all of Hollywood would be better off if they took the subject a little more seriously. Kudos to her; it was a statement worthy of at least a hat tip if not a full TDA salute.

I’d have to agree with you. I could write a dissertation on the ways that photo takes away both her ethnicity and her individuality as a woman. And I think your feeling of death captures it: she’s an object in that picture. Might as well put the underwear on a blowup doll and photograph that.
TDA,
I agree with your wife. She’s sexy. It’s not the usual near porn that underwear ads are.
