My Last Photo on Shatterproof

by Screedler on February 22, 2016

Most recovery oriented websites and blogs were started by people who have experienced addiction first hand. They always share their personal story and sometimes a photo.

Originally known as Brian’s Wish, Shatterproof was founded in 2012 by Gary Mendell, whose son, Brian, died at age 25 in 2011 after a long struggle with addiction. The site has grown massively since its beginnings.

If you have never been to the recovery site Shatterproof, head on over there and check out what and how they are serving the recovery community. My first visit was today and I was very impressed.

Very unfortunate indeed when the selfishness of one takes the life of another. However, the addict (alcoholic) is not purposely trying to hurt anyone. They have a serious disease that kills (not just themselves but others as well). We must develop a better treatment program in stead of stricter laws. If laws were enough to manipulate the alcoholic to simply stop drinking and driving they would have all stopped by now. However, the disease of alcoholism makes the drinker believe nothing will happen to them or to innocent bystanders. We also need to figure out some more effective early prevention methods so individuals do not turn to alcohol in the first place!
