Methadone. It makes people absolutely stupid. I’m not talking about those taking it for treatment of pain or addictions, but instead those that protest its use. Take this news story for example highlighted by the ever diligent ARM-Me Blog about an Indiana methadone clinic advertising its services on a highway billboard. ARM-ME is an advocacy site that I am proud to call a blog friend and they ran this story because of its overall positive spin- but it still bothered me that the journalist who wrote the article had to include a “known fact”.
Although the advertising could also attract drug dealers who see the clinic as a concentrated base of clients, Arlt said she wasn’t too worried because of the clinic’s numerous indoor and outdoor cameras. ~ Post-Tribune
Don’t look now Ms Media, but if you have addicts that means you already have drug dealers (be careful here, they may even have a stethoscope). Trust me on this one- the clinic did not locate there because the community lacks a drug problem. The only thing the treatment center might do is actually lessen the demand!

someone please help.i’ve had al.reactions to methadone and suboxone,i struggle everyday it started so very young and the docs could not fix me so then came the Pills by 9 i was drinking and takng pills daily I know those stupid pain pills changed my brain and hurt me forever thank the LORD HE HELPED ME TO QUIT DRINKING!!!! 13 surgeries,a record later i’m still sick&tired. I just would like to know what else is there that can heal my brain? thankyou,Lisa.

It never fails to surprise me how deeply in denial some folks are about the drug problem in their areas…and how un-researched their arguments against a clinic can be!
I actually had someone say to me once that they were fighting the clinic because they KNEW that it wasn’t needed. I tried to explain that methadone clinics don’t open where there isn’t any BUSINESS!

LOL I have seen MMT patients portrayed as child molesters, burglers, drug dealers and those are the compliments…LOL I remember when the anti organizations discovered that I had cancer. I guess that was when i truly realized the depths of hatred for this medication (although I will never understand it). I started seeing statements such as the following…

Isn’t that sad? And I never said I had cancer or liver damage from Methadone or even drugs. Actually, I was stuck by a needle as a nurse when a psychiatric patient pulled out IV while I was starting a blood transfusion. He was HCV+. I obtained a rare form of Hep C because he had been stationed in Asia (I worked at the VA). This genotype is more prone to early cirrhosis and liver cancer. In fact, I had cancer when I started MMT but was not aware. So this just shows the ignorance is only second to the cruelty some of these people have. Sorry to go on but I was on a roll…LOL Keep up the great blog.
