John Denver ~ Please Daddy Don’t Get Drunk This Christmas

by Screedler on December 16, 2015

Although better known for his upbeat songs like “Country Roads”, “Annie’s Song”, and “Rocky Mountain High”; John Denver had a very dark side and struggled with drug and alcohol abuse throughout his life.  This 1997 article,  John Denver: ‘My dark night of the soul’  is a confessional interview conducted just 6 months before his death in an experimental airplane crash.  It’s worth a read and might give insight into why he would write a song such as this and not be joking.

Update -hat tip to Inge for pointing out that Denver did not write this song –

While it seems easy to connect the song to the article — John Denver didn’t write this song, Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert did, and a lot of other artists sang it, too…

Thank you for researching it – I guess if nothing else his background speaks to his affinity for the song. I will update article with your info – Thanks and come again.
