Please.

This isn't a product for alcoholics, any more than faux cigarettes are a product for people who have given up smoking.

I think this is a superb idea and here's why:

I don't drink and drive. I don't even drink. I love the taste, can't tolerate the effect. When I go out there are VERY FEW OPTIONS. Water. Gets pretty boring after a while. Diet Pop. I'm not a fan of pop. Juice. I don't want juice with my appetizers.

If these taste good, it will give me something to drink when I'm out. I don't need to have a drink to feel like I 'fit in'. I'm way past caring about whether I fit in.

As anyone who has studied advocacy marketing knows, the first step is creating an awareness. The second step is providing an alternative action.

MADD has done a superb job of creating awareness. MADD Virgin Drinks provides an alternative. And if in the process, consuming this beverage helps support the efforts of MADD and helps them continue to spread the message, then I'll happily drink the product.

100000%.

~ Judy

p.s. I would suspect that the majority of MADD's detractors are people who enjoy, or prefer to, drink and drive. Idiot doesn't even come close to being a sufficient adjective to describe those people.

But still a poor choice for MADD IMHO.

Even though I am a supporter of MADD and agree that non-alcoholic “mimic” drinks may be a good alternative for designated drivers, I do question the wisdom of putting their name on adult beverages regardless of the content. MADD already has a large host of detractors from the ABI to minimum age opponents, and this move will certainly give them a controversial issue to target.

My uncle is the one who came up with this product... It is meant for people who want to experience the taste of an alcoholic beverage but do not want to have to drink alcohol. In my mind, i think it is an amazing product.

Agreed Barbara- I do not think MADD made a good move here. Seems less advocacy related and more financially motivated.

This is absoulutely a crazy idea. Why would MADD even consider this avenue!! My son is a victim of a drunk driving crash and will suffer for the rest of his life because someone chose to drink and drive. I teach at a local high school and you think putting your name on a non-alcoholic beverage will deter teens. They might start out this way, but it will eventually lead to a stronger beverage. I think you have certainly lost your credibility by choosing this avenue.
