Hat Tip and thanks to unofficial TDA researcher Norm for the heads up on this one!
Among the lines of this twelfth century Byzantium version of the Hippocratic Oath is the following:
I will prescribe regimens for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone.
Dr. Malcolm Lloyd seems to have forgotten that line as he now encourages daily alcohol use as a health regimen. Maybe he should lay off the sauce he’s been hawking since it seems to have also slipped his memory during this New York Post interview piece that he is the CEO of luxury vodka brand Double Cross Vodka… aptly named I dare say for a doctor obviously more concerned with selling vodka than taking care of patients.
There is no doubt that in moderation alcohol can be beneficial to one’s health, but then again the same thing can be said for nitroglycerin. There are plenty of non-intoxicating healthy foods and juices that do a better job without near the potential risk for abuse and it would be this view I would expect from a doctor that has vowed to “never do harm to anyone”. Those drinkers that need to justify their behavior with this spiel- that’s fine and dandy, but for a doctor that knows the statistics and the high potential for alcohol abuse as well as much safer regimens to follow- it is committing the ultimate double cross.
