Cooking with Dog and the TDA Mailbag

by The Discovering Alcoholic on December 22, 2009

Cooking With Dog and the TDA MailbagActually it’s Mrs. TDA who is cooking with dog; I’m just enjoying the final product. Check out the easy to follow recipes at Francis the Poodle’s Japanese cooking channel on YouTube. Cooking With Dog (CWD), cool huh?

While I am enjoying the gyoza, I’ll share a few of the interesting stories from the mailbag that the TDA researchers have sent me this month. Kate let us know that the Wisconsin governor has increased penalties for driving under the influence. Unfortunately first time offenders are still punished as if they were double parked- that is unless they just so happen to kill someone. It seems the drunks are still wizzing in Wisconsin and telling the rest of the state it’s raining.

Long time researcher Zentient sent in this story about a woman who is giving her autistic nine year old son marijuana. I can only judge this type of story from my viewpoint as an addict and alcoholic, and so consider it similar to self medication (mother to child) which for people like me is scary and almost always problematic. Regardless of her intentions, intelligence, or even short term results- I do not think it wise that an amateur herbalist is basically experimenting on her son. But like I said my experience with addiction and advocacy is what shapes my opinion, not any special insight into the issues of autistic children. I have thrown this ball via e-mail over to my friend MPJ at A Room of Mama’s Own. I would like to see what someone with her relative experience and keen intelligence would say about this subject. I’ll also send it to my super smart blogging colleague Abel Pharmboy who has PhD in Pharmacology and Therapeutics and BS in Toxicology that writes on natural product drugs among other things at Terra Sigillata.

Finally brother screedler sent in this link, a slide show documenting the drunkest states in the Union… and yes, Wisconsin is one of the pack leaders.

Thanks to all that send me such interesting and thought provoking stories.

Whew! I’ll see what I can do on that topic after the holidays. Thanks for thinking of me. 🙂
