Just as Tina found out with Ike when it comes to alcoholism, what's love got to do with it? It’s tough to not wince when husbands, wives, and parents who have loved ones suffering from alcoholism speak and act as if they care enough, things will change. Of course things do change and for the most part they change for the worse.

But it is not a totally bleak picture, there are success stories. I know that without the unremitted love my family offered, without the unconditional acceptance back into the fold that my recovery would have been that much more difficult… if not impossible. Their love did absolutely nothing but produce pain and suffering for all involved when I was drinking, but it was my salvation when I stopped.

Never give up, it can get better.
