Happy birthday to me. That’s right, today is my birthday and SAMSHA (U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) has once again given me a great birthday present that I would like to share with you. What I am speaking of is Recovery Month, an annual event to “promote the societal benefits of alcohol and drug use disorder treatment, laud the contributions of treatment providers and promote the message that recovery from alcohol and drug use disorders in all its forms is possible.”
One of my birthday resolutions this month is to speak in public on behalf of Recovery Month and to personally raise the awareness of those around me about the disease of addiction and benefits of treatment. If you want to give me a present, all I ask for is for you to do the same. Get out there and spread the message that treatment both saves lives and saves dollars, but more than anything it reduces suffering and improves the quality of all our lives.

I’ll be working on that present for you.
Thanks for checking in on me, I was just out enjoying the last unofficial week of summer with my family.
Back to work!
