Just over three months ago after a humiliating arrest and embarrassing playoff performance, I made the snarky observation that Detroit Tiger Miguel Cabrera had come out of the weekend with only one hit.
Apparently the only thing Miguel Cabrera, star of the Detroit Tigers, could hit last Saturday was his wife. ~ Cabrera Whiffs… of Alcohol and at the Plate
I believe in second chances. In fact, I believe in second and third chances (within reason) when it comes to addiction because it often takes this and more. It seems that Cabrera has been granted a second chance by his family and team after last year’s drunken antics. He recently finished a three month outpatient treatment for alcoholism and has plans to continue the focus on recovery.
“I’ve worked very hard with my doctors and my family this winter, and I’m going to keep working,” Cabrera said as the Tigers started their Winter Caravan through Michigan. Cabrera said he has turned his life around. He said he hasn’t had a drink since he was taken into custody by police after a domestic-abuse complaint was filed by his wife in the early morning of Oct. 3 — hours before a crucial game against the Chicago White Sox. ~ Jamestown Sun
A beautiful family, $141 million contract, and an undeniable talent- and Cabrera almost threw them all away for the shattered life of an alcoholic. That’s insanity, that’s addiction.
Good luck Miguel, no more of your notorious drinking and late nights. Keep your focus on recovery and stay safe at home.
